Follow these helpful tips to help you ease and calm down from anger:

1. ACKNOWLEDGE THE FEELING

Whenever we are angry, we must acknowledge that these are true emotions and is normal for humans to experience. Let it out but not excessively, try to release your emotions but not in a harmful or disrespecting way for you and others.

Acceptance is better than fighting it as it will help you release the anger and focus more on the solution. According to research, anger response is less likely to lead to high blood pressure or high-stress hormone secretion which are adverse effects of stress, it is a healthier response than fear.

2. MANAGE YOUR ANGER APPROPRIATELY

In case of escalation or confrontation, don’t immediately take out anger on other people or yourself. Release the respectfully and healthily. Avoid doing or saying things that might cause more damage or chaos. Choose your words and actions before executing them.

If you’re about to burst a temper, there are various ways to calm yourself from anger. Before the process of problem-solving, disconnect yourself from the incident for a short period. This can help you focus and think straight after the anger is released from your body. Take a short walk, breathe it out, or simply distance yourself so you can relax for a while.

3. IDENTIFY YOUR TRIGGERS

As part of emotional intelligence, you must be certain of your emotions. To identify reasons for your anger, ask yourself these questions:

”What triggers me to be mad?”
“What am I feeling underneath this anger?”
“What would make me calm?”
“If I do/say this, is it worth it”

And lastly,
“What am I going to do next? What’s my next step?”
High EQ or EI is considered one of the good traits of a respected and good leader. Contemplating your emotional intelligence will make a difference in our reactions in every situation. Identifying your emotions will help you focus on the things that are important to do.
