Can’t seem to figure out what makes you feel unsatisfied? You might be in a work slump!

Get back on your track by breaking out from the barriers that keep you unsatisfied!

Here are the 5 tips to get out of a work slump:

1. GET TO KNOW YOUR INNER BEING: WHAT MIGHT HAVE TRIGGERED YOUR DISSATISFACTION?

Knowing how you feel about a situation might help you pinpoint the several factors that might have started your work slump. Ask yourself questions that will digest the situation into pieces. When did it start? Is there any person or personal matters involved that might contribute to this? Is it necessary to remove any part of your routine that is no longer effective?

These are significant questions you might consider answering as it goes down to the root cause of your work slump.

2. GO BACK TO WHAT INSPIRES AND MOTIVATES YOU

Thinking about what inspires you to work might bring back the spark that started it all. According to recent research, inspiration can be activated, captured, and motivated. It has a major impact on our life outcomes. It can boost our performance as it makes our vision happen.

According to Thrash and Elliot’s Inspiration Scale, inspired people were more open to new experiences and tasks. Inspired individuals have a stronger drive to become proficient at their work, but were less competitive.

To affirm your vision, creating a vision board may also help you to get motivated. Comfort your well-being by seeing a visual representation of your dream house, car, job, or anything that will remind you that these are your motivations to get up in the morning and continue to work hard. Putting affirmations in your phone wallpaper, notifications, or calendar will also help you to keep going and get back on track.

3. THE HEDONIC TREADMILL OR HEDONIC ADAPTATION

Whenever people become proficient or excellent in their jobs, it may sometimes become unfulfilling and may just turn into a basic routine. This is a phenomenon called THE HEDONIC TREADMILL OR HEDONIC ADAPTATION. This phenomenon occurs when we get used to the things we do, even the ones that fulfill us.

According to Washington University Lecturer, Tim Bono, “Someone who loves chocolate will grow tired of eating it after a while if chocolate is the only thing they have to eat every single day, day after day.” The same goes for anything, including our jobs. At first, we usually feel excited about our job roles, but eventually, it feels like a routine that we have to deal with every day.

4. TAKE A PERSONAL TIME OFF

Whenever you feel overwhelmed due to pressure and stress, always remind yourself to take a rest. Just like what you do with the regular flu, your mental health also needs rest when it is not well. Mental health is now part of our self-care, take a break from the stress and relief yourself to avoid burnout or any other mental health issues that may arise due to stress.

Spending time with yourself or a loved one, getting a massage, taking a walk, or even a simple relaxing day inside the house will take your mind off the stressful workload. After a tiring week, reward yourself by recharging your mind and body.

5. GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND NEVER STOP LEARNING

If the work slump hits you all of a sudden, step out of your comfort zone and discover new things that will add up to your knowledge and growth. Sometimes, when we get used to things, we become comfortable and stagnant. Whenever you feel like you aren’t learning or growing anymore, learn new things from a different perspective. The world is enormous enough to explore and discover things you didn’t know yet.

Think outside the box! Keep yourself boosted and fascinated by exploring different or unusual from your daily routine. The goal is to explore different activities that will keep you away from dull days. Go to an unusual restaurant or coffee shop, have a unique set of workouts during your day off, and read or watch something different from the book or movie genre you usually pick.
